At the journey's beginning.

In early 1997, a pair of Inter City ‘Swifts’ seen at Glasgow Central. Earlier, the day had been very wet, but later a dazzling light illuminated this Impressionist scene.

The next time I travelled on these trains a few weeks later, they had been repainted in the colours of Virgin West Coast railways - the end of nearly 40 years of nationalisation.
