James Selway - An Artist in Catalunya

James was born in a small mountain village in South Wales and remained in that country to study art in Swansea. Following a spell teaching, he moved to the fens of East Anglia to concentrate on his painting. After commissions that included painting the Annunciation for the Roman Catholic shrine at Walsingham and work for London's Southwark cathedral, he moved to Catalunya in 2001. He lives in the small town of Castellar del Vallés, in the surprisingly green countryside north of the Catalan capital, Barcelona. Much of his portfolio of fine art canvas prints exhibited in our online gallery draw inspiration from the local villages, fields and massifs of Sant Llorenç de Munt.

Always travelling in search of the vibrant streets and beautiful scenery that you will find in his portfolio of fine art canvas prints, he tends to concentrate on certain regions that inspire his energetic paintings. This has taken him to his native Wales, Southern France, Italy, England and Morocco, with the latter a particular inspiration in his fine art canvas print collection.

The artist regularly visits Barcelona and plays a key part in the city's lively art scene, featuring regularly in Catalan news publications in addition to his many exhibitions there.  Living and working in Catalunya, James has discovered more and developed genuine affection for artists from the region. He particularly enjoys the freshness and spontaneity of Antoni Granja Llobet, together with the work of Manuel Duque Dominguez.
