James paints with  oil, acrylic and water colour and his subject matter is also extensive and includes landscapes, city scenes and figures. He tends to choose particular areas as a source for his paintings: various regions of Spain, Southern France, Italy, Morocco, England and his native Wales. His interesting style combines fine details with broad, abstract brushwork , creating a highly original style which runs through his paintings.

James grew up in a small village in South Wales, and after qualifying from Swansea College of Art, spent time in London and East Anglia before moving to live near Barcelona in 2001. His paintings are now in much demand throughout Europe and included in many private collections in Spain, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Ireland, Australia, the United States and the UK. James regularly exhibits in various prestigious galleries in the UK and throughout Spain.

From his base in Barcelona he travels throughout Spain, the South of France and into Italy in search of suitable subject matter for his work. However, he still holds a strong bond with his native Britain, returning at times to include aspects of his home country in his portfolio of work. The themes of his work are also wide-ranging and include landscapes and cityscapes, figures and natural forms, normally painted in oil, acrylic and watercolour.
